Dick began his insurance career right out of college as an agent with Penn Mutual Life Insurance Company. He later became General Agent of their home office agency, which was one of the first agencies to offer both insurance and investment products when Penn Mutual purchased Janney Montgomery Scott. While managing one of the top five agencies in the company, he continued marketing to his own clientele, serving the high-net-worth, business, and professional markets.
In the late 1980s, Dick left Penn Mutual and established his own firm. There, he utilized products of all the major insurance companies, rather than being a captive agent of just one.
In 1998, Dick became a founding partner of Highland Capital, a large brokerage general agency providing banks, money managers, and wire houses with insurance products. When Highland was purchased in 2005 by National Financial Partners, he elected to sell his interest in the firm and become a consultant with Bryn Mawr Trust, which was one of his Highland customers.
Dick joined Powers Craft in 2014, when Bryn Mawr Trust acquired Powers Craft and merged it with its full-service insurance agency subsidiary, Insurance Counsellors of Bryn Mawr, Inc.
